Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build continues to help local heroes

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 11/24/2021

Continuing its tradition of commemorating Veterans Day, the Habitat of Humanity of South Palm Beach County’s Veterans Build program transformed 10 veterans’ homes in a Boynton Beach neighborhood recently.

With over 120 corporate and civic team members from sponsoring companies participating, Habitat of Humanity was joined by businesses and residents in cleaning up and repairing the veterans’ living spaces. Volunteers also installed mailboxes, spread mulch and planted landscaping.

The initiative was made possible by the contributions from Vertical Bridge, Home Depot, Florida Power & Light Co., Moraca Builders, Boynton Beach Police Department and the city of Boynton Beach.

“Vertical Bridge is proud to once again sponsor Habitat for Humanity’s Veterans Build this year,” Vertical Bridge CEO and co-founder Alex Gellman said in a statement. “This is our fifth year sponsoring the Habitat Veterans Build, and we continue to support this cause because it’s one our company believes in and our employees enjoy participating in.

“We appreciate the work Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County does for our veterans and community and the opportunity they provide us to give back,” Gellman said. “By bringing together the community to improve the homes of 10 veterans and seniors, we get to positively impact the lives of those who have laid their lives on the line for our nation.”

The morning program opened with welcome remarks from Habitat of Humanity of South Palm Beach County President and CEO Jennifer Thomason. Later, the lunch program included a presentation of colors by the Boynton Beach High School MCJROTC along with a statement from Boynton Beach Vice Mayor Woodrow Hay and U.S. Army veteran Sophia Eccleston.

Habitat for Humanity of South Palm Beach County, an affiliate of the global nonprofit organization, provides services for individuals in the cities of Boynton Beach, Delray Beach and Boca Raton.
