Veterans employment center in Newport News to offer resume development, career building workshops and training

Daily Press - 11/15/2021

The Hampton Roads Workforce Council will open its new Hampton Roads Veterans Employment Center in Newport News today.

The center will offer individual help to veterans and military spouses in their searches for work. Services will include resume development, career building workshops and training. The center will also offer access to computers and teleconferencing systems and will serve as a meeting space for job fairs, hiring events and orientations.

It is in Suite 210, 600 Thimble Shoals Blvd., Newport News.

The center is funded by a $300,000 grant from Smithfield Foods.

The Newport News center marks an expansion of the council’s footprint after the recent merger between the Hampton Roads Workforce Council and the Greater Peninsula Workforce Board.

The council already operates a Hampton Roads Veterans Employment Center at the Circle East Office Building, Suite 220, 861 Glenrock Road, Norfolk. Its phone number is 757-807-0423

That merger of the council and board took effect in July,
