95-year-old Michigan veteran and Republican tells Dem convention he'll vote against Trump

Detroit Free Press - 8/21/2020

A 95-year-old Michigan veteran appeared as part of the Democratic convention program Thursday night, saying he's a longtime Republican but won't vote for President Donald Trump this year.

Edward Good, of Farmington Hills, said he has been a Republican since the 1960s and is a member of the National Rifle Association who voted for Trump in 2016 but is dissatisfied with what he has seen from the president.

"I think Trump has been the worst president we've ever had and I'll be glad to see him go," said Good, who said he served in World War II and the Korean War and parachuted into combat in Germany.

In the brief clip, Good didn't say why he couldn't support Trump but in a letter to the Oakland Press in July, Good said that Trump has "fought to take health care away from millions of Americans, and his racism has divided us in a time where we must stand together. His response to COVID-19 has been a disaster, especially endangering people like me and my wife."

In his remarks at the convention, Good said he thinks "Joe Biden will be a great leader for the United States... I think he cares about doing his proper duty for the United States."
