Health care fears
According to a recent Gallup poll, health care insurance is America’s top financial worry.
I am scared for my wife and me, for our children and our grandchildren. I am scared that the U.S. Senate will do whatever it takes to get 50 votes to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. The poor and the people in the middle will suffer, and the wealthy will be happy. America: Wake up!
Social Security and Medicare have relatively low administrative costs (3 to 5 percent, according to some estimates). Why the 20 to 30 percent for health insurance companies? Because they have to make a profit, pay dividends to their shareholders, pay expensive administrative salaries and pay some of our senators tens of thousands of dollars to be sure to protect the interests of the insurance companies.
As for repeal, let’s repeal the prohibition that prevents Medicare from negotiating drug prices. The V.A. negotiates prices and pays about one-third the cost that Medicare pays. Further, we need a single-payer health care, Medicare for all, not driven by the need for profits, dividends, expensive salaries and big dollars to keep Sen. Mitch McConnell and others in their pocket.
